Shawls of Fall Contest

Party: October 10, 4:30-6:30pm

It’s time for our 3rd annual Shawls of Fall contest! Bring in your shawl made from yarn purchased at 3 Kittens Needle Arts and you may win one of our prizes. Basic rules are as follows:

  • Shawls and shawlettes are eligible.
  • Shawls must have been started after 10/1/13.
  • You may enter as many items as you would like.
  • Yarn must be purchased at 3 Kittens.
  • Shawls can be made from any pattern.
  • 3 Kittens will determine the categories for the contest and will determine which category your shawl will be in.
  • Items need to be dropped off at 3 Kittens between Oct 1-8
  • Items will be on display from Oct 10-19.
  • Shawls can be picked up on or after Oct 21.
  • 3 Kittens will make every effort to protect your item(s) while on display. However, 3 Kittens shall not be held responsible for any damage or loss during the contest.

Join us for a stimulating day of stitching with needlepoint designer Shelly Tribbey! We will all be working on Shelly’s “Trick or Treat Bag.” While there will be no formal instruction, Shelly will be available for questions and suggestions. The day will include lunch at Mendoberri.

Fun with Fair Isle (aka “Double Fisted Knitting”)

Location: 3 Kittens Needle Arts

Learn the “double fisted” knitting style that makes it easy to knit with two colors at a time. Learning this stranded knitting technique will open up a whole new world of knitting patterns! In this hands-on class, we will focus on learning to carry one color in each hand. We’ll begin with a small project to get you started.

Now that you know how to knit with two colors at the same time, explore your options for knitting a successful Fair Isle (stranded knitting) garment, like the Rowan “Roan” sweater pictured. We’ll cover techniques that include tips on maintaining proper tension, steeks, choosing colors and making a garment that fits.

Laura Taylor Needlepoint Weekend

May 16-19, 2015

Laura Taylor has a background in Graphic Design and has been teaching needlepoint for 14 years at Aristeia in Los Angeles. Her design background finds its way into every canvas she works on – bringing her love of color, texture and balance to enhance her approach to the piece. She is a passionate teacher who collaborates with each student to bring out their personal best and make the most of their canvas. She is especially fond of open stitches and overdyed threads that allow the artist’s vision to shine through.
