3 Kittens has received a Talk of the Town 2010 Award for Excellence in Customer Service!

Dear Laura,
My daughter is back from Chile, my youngest son is back from camp, and my oldest son just registered for his college classes.  It must mean that school is starting soon!  We're getting in the act at the store too.  We're introducing 3 Kittens University (aka, 3KU).  First quarter starts in September.  See the article below for all the details.

In the meantime, enjoy these hot days of summer!

3K University

University U

3KU is an innovative new series of classes for intermediate knitters.  These skill building sessions will help you sharpen your knitting skills and bring your knitting to a whole new level.

Your skills will advance by leaps and bounds as you learn the elements of fine knitting.  3KU will help you change from a person who knits to a knitter, as you learn when, where and why to apply your newly discovered skills.  Knit garments that fit better.  Make informed decisions when you are presented with options within a pattern.  Learn to read your knitting and improve the look of your finished garments.

1st Quarter Classes

Class 1 - September 9: What Size Should I Make?
Our inaugural session of 3KU focuses on choosing the right size for your knitted garment.  One of the most common complaints we hear is that knitted sweaters do not turn out to be the desired size.  Learn to decipher the choices offered within the pattern, the differences in "finished size" and "to fit size," positive ease, negative ease, and how to read a pattern schematic.  Learn how to relate body measurements to a pattern so you can knit a garment that fits well.  Understand how to make changes between the top and bottom of a sweater to accommodate our different body shapes.  No more surprises at the end of your sweater!

Class 2 - October 14: Yarn Choices & Substitutes, and How to Get Your Gauge On
Love that pattern, but don't love that yarn?  Or can't find that yarn?  This class will teach you how to make yarn substitions to get the garment you want.  Learn the properties of various fibers and how they behave.  Decipher those yarn ball bands to get the info you need.  Learn how fiber choices and needle sizes affect the final look of your sweater.  Understand why we make such a fuss about gauge and how gauge really affects your garments.

Class 3 - November 11: Increases and Decreases
Most things we knit utilize increases and decreases, but how do you choose which method to use?  In this class we will talk about and practice multiple methods to increase and decrease within our knitting.  Learn single, double, and multiple increases and decreases.  Learn to choose which method is best to use based on the look you wish to achieve as well as what is appropriate for the item you are knitting.  Explore the aesthetic differences you can achieve with mirrored increases and decreases.  This class will help you identify your preferences for increasing and decreasing and learn about placement of these stitches.

Registration begins August 9th for the 1st Quarter!
